Swiming is a summer activity that everyone loves. It is also a great sport that many of us love to watch on television due to its extreme competitiveness. I loved watching Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin in these past Olympics. They were absolutely phenomenal. Despite being a fun activity, many people are unaware of the added health benefits that swimming provides. In this article, I’m going to be going over these benefits and I am going to tell you why you need to implement swimming into your lifestyle as soon as possible.
1. It builds endurance
One of the best things that swimming does is build endurance. This is especially beneficial for older people as they cannot keep up as much as when they were a kid. Don’t think it builds endurance? Try treading water for ten minutes or even go swim a few laps and you will understand my point.
2. It benefits your cardiovascular system
Swimming is some of the best cardio out there. You must use special breathing techniques and engage many muscles in your body at the same time. As you age, this will help combat things like coronary artery disease and heart disease. All in all, it will leave you with better health as you age
3. Less stress on the body
One of the biggest reasons why older people should implement swimming is it takes a lot of stress off of your bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments. This ultimately decreases the wear that you do to your body.
