As an American entrepreneur Whitney Wolf went to South Methodist University where she majored in International Studies. She also studied at La Sorbonne for one year.
While at the university she partnered with Patrick Aufdenamp and started a non-profit organization called Help-Us Project. They sold tote bags made with bamboo so as to benefit the areas damaged by the BP Oil Spill. These bags got national exposure after celebrities Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie took photos with them.
Later on after graduating, Whitney Wolfe joined Sean Rad in Cardify. This project was under Health Labs iAC incubator and it did not progress. Together with Rad, Chris Gulczynksi, Whitney Wolf joined Tinder. This is a dating application which was founded in 2012. It uses the swiping motion allowing matching users to chat if they have both swiped right. It also has an option of moving on by swiping left to get someone a user likes. Whitney Wolfe became the vice president of the marketing division and saw the app grow to an idea worth $750 million. She was able to enhance the app popularity among college students and hence enabling its user base to grow.
In 2014, Whitney Wolfe left Tinder partly due to misunderstandings with other company executives. She files a sexual harassment lawsuit and was settled with an amount not revealed and stock in the company.
Coupled with the experience at Tinder, Whitney Wolfe started Bumble which is also co-owned by Andre Andreev a businessman. Her main reason of this app was because of the dynamics that are involved in heterosexual relations which often lead to abusive and dysfunctional relationships. This application has an average download of 30,000 times a day. Whitney Wolfe believes this application enables women to have more control in their dating lives and hence become confident in many other areas including their friendships and careers.
