Scott Rocklage has made a highly successful career out of doing just this. He learned chemistry at some of the world’s top universities, having received his B.S. from Berkeley and his PhD from MIT. He spent time in the laboratory of an esteemed Nobel laureate, Richard Schrock.

But Dr. Rocklage wasn’t content merely to advance the frontier of human knowledge in the laboratory. He wanted to achieve practical results and to help everyday people in need. In that role, he used his scientific expertise to shepherd numerous medicines through the clinical trial process, crucial for ensuring drug efficacy and patient safety. Now Dr. Rocklage is helping patients by serving as a managing partner at 5AM Ventures, which invests in early stage biotechnology startups that provide important healthcare solutions.
