The 17th FINA world masters swimming championship is around the corner, and the qualifiers are getting ready for the battle. Olympic stars, World and continental champions are gathering from their respective regions for the competition to be held in Hungary, Budapest on 14th July.
Both swimming veterans and newbies will grace the event seeking to prove their worth in different heats. Charlotte Atkinson falls among the FINA qualifiers after displaying remarkable performance in the previous British championships. Atkinson was nominated for the British 29-strong team based on her most recent win in the 50m and 200m women’s butterfly titles at Sheffield championships. In that competition, she also came second in the 100-metre race.
The 19-year-old swimmer was excited to have made it to the team and promised more action and medals in the July 2017 championships. This was her first win in the British Championships where she set several personal bests in all the events in which she took part.
Adam Peaty, an Olympic winner from the GB World Champions team, is another personality to watch in these competitions. At only 22 years of age, he holds the world record for the 100m sprint breaststroke. He will be defending his prestigious honor in the Hungary event this July. His team consisting of Jazz Carlin, James Guy, Stephen Milne and Duncan Scott among others will be joining him after an excellent display at the Sheffield competitions.
These talented individuals have an enormous task ahead since the contest will not only be about winning but also breaking personal records.
