Kelcy Warren’s Transformational Gift Elevates UTA’s Engineering Program
In a historic move, alumnus Kelcy Warren has made a $12 million donation to the University of Texas
at Arlington (UTA), marking the largest single philanthropic investment in the
institution’s history. This substantial contribution aims to propel UTA to the
forefront of the resource and energy engineering (REE) field.
Kelcy Warren, who graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1978, is the executive chairman
and chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer LP. Kelcy Warren’s generous gift will support the newly established REE bachelor’s degree
program within UTA’s College of Engineering. This program is set to debut in
the fall of 2023 and is the first of its kind in the United States.
The funding will be allocated to various initiatives aimed at enhancing faculty and research
excellence. Among these are the creation of the Kelcy Warren Endowed
Professorship in Resource and Energy Engineering and two Kelcy Warren Endowed
Faculty Fellowships. These positions will help attract and retain distinguished
scholars, ensuring that UTA remains at the cutting edge of energy engineering education.
In addition to faculty support, the donation will fund state-of-the-art laboratory spaces and
equipment. This will provide both faculty and students with the necessary
resources to address today’s most pressing energy challenges. The Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center will also be established,
offering engineering undergraduates invaluable experiential learning
opportunities such as internships and co-ops.
Scholarship and fellowship support will be provided for both undergraduate and graduate
students, known respectively as Warren Scholars and Warren Fellows. This
financial assistance aims to help students achieve their educational and career
goals in the energy sector and related fields.
University of Texas at Arlington President Jennifer Cowley expressed her
gratitude, noting that the gift would leave a lasting impact on the university.
“A gift of this magnitude will provide transformational support for
resource and energy engineering and establish UTA as a national leader in this
increasingly important industry,” she stated.
Kelcy Warren has a long history of supporting UTA, having contributed over $4 million through ten
previous gifts. His latest donation further solidifies his commitment to
advancing education and addressing the critical need for skilled graduates in
the energy sector. See related link for additional information.
